Termite Control Cairns
Termites are a part of life up here in Cairns. There are many species of termites around the area with several of them being quite destructive to your homes and properties. Not all termite species are bad though, some will only feed on decaying leaf matter, tree stumps and grasses.
Only a professional pest management technician would be able to tell you if the species of termite you have in your yard is going to cause any concerns to your house or not. To the untrained eye they can be very difficult to tell apart. For this reason we strongly recommend having a Timber Pest Inspection done to your property at least annually to help locate any possible termite issues and help reduce environmental conditions which could lead to possible termite problems , |
Timber Pest Inspections
One of the first recommendations for any home-owner concerned about termites is to have a timber pest inspection done.
The purpose of a Timber Pest Inspection is to go through your house from top to bottom in search of any Termite activity or damage, the timber pest inspection also includes other pests to timber such as wood borers, drywood termites, fungal decay and chemical delignification. The reports also go into great detail about things you can do around your house to reduce the environmental conditions that lead to termite attack to your home. A Timber Pest Inspection from Pest Off Solutions is generally around $220 for a standard sized home in Cairns. |
Localised Treatments
In the event that active subterranean termites are found, there are several options you can have your technician do to help eradicate the termite problem from your house. One of the first things you may want to do is have the active termite trails treated with a non-repellent termite dust that gets injected into the termite workings where the termites then pass the dust onto other termites and essentially spread the slow acting chemical throughout the colony. After about 3-4 weeks the colony will completely die off if you have treated enough active termites. Localised treatments alone will not provide any future protection for your home and will generally only help to fix the current termite infestation.

Chemical Soil Treatments
A chemical soil treatment these days will usually consist of using a non-repellent termiticide such as Termidor or Premise, these chemicals have a delayed effect and can be transported back to the nest of the termite colony and wipe the colony out over a period of several weeks.
The beauty of these non-repellent termiticides is that the termites are completely unaware of their presence and will continue to forage through the treated zones and unknowingly eliminate their own colony in due course. The older chemicals that were previously used were easy for the termites to avoid because of the strong solvents and odours that they contained, and over time termites would often find an entry point around or over the treated zones. Generally with a chemical treatment, the entire perimeter of a structure will be treated and any expansion joints or high risk areas may be treated also. It will most likely consist of trenching/treating and back-filling beside external walls, drilling and injecting concrete and wall voids, and trenching and treating sub-floor areas if applicable amongst other things. |
Termite Baiting/Monitoring
Pest Off Solutions uses the latest in termite baiting technology.
Sentricon IG (In-Ground) Termiticide Rods have the benefits of both chemical barriers and bait stations, without any of their drawbacks. No mixing, no trenches, no poison. And colony elimination may be achieved before termites are even detected! Sentricon AlwaysActive is active from installation, in stations around the perimeter of a structure, providing continuous protection from day one. All day, every day. |
Reticulation/Replenishment Systems
Reticulation/Replenishment systems are essentially chemical soil treatments that don't require the re-trenching or re-drilling after the treatment has expired. What we do is install a reticulation system hose after we've trenched the perimeter or before you lay a slab, this hose has hundreds of tiny holes along it and when re-charged from a re-charge housing location it pumps chemical throughout the previously laid hose and retreats all the areas where the hose has been laid, the benefit of this is that it brings the costs down of any future treatments because you no longer require the extensive labour costs of re-trenching or re-drilling. Pest Off Solutions is an accredited installer of TermX Replenishment Systems
