Seasonal pests of Cairns
Many pests are seasonal creatures which will often be very prolific at certain times of the year and then all but disappear at other times of the year.
Unluckily for us up here in Cairns with our tropical climate, most pests are here to stay with us all year round. However, there are periods throughout the year when they are way less active and will give you a break from their usual annoyance. |
Ants
Even though you may get ants all year round in the tropics of Cairns they are far more prevalent between late spring and winter up here. The warmer months along with the wet season can cause many ant species to become very active and venture inside your homes in search of food, water and higher ground. The wet weather will cause several ground nesting species to search out higher nesting places to avoid drowning and will very likely come into your homes. Read this blog to help Stop Ants
Cockroaches
Cockroaches can be seen all year round here in Cairns, but are especially active during the warmer months. Cockroaches tend to stay hidden when it's cooler up here, they're still there, they just don't get seen as often and aren't as active. Check out our blog on how to Help stop Cockroaches
Termites
You will generally see termites all year round, but they tend to be more active under warm, humid conditions. Termite activity is often revealed by the presence of mud channels or galleries in places where timber contacts the ground. You may also notice flying winged termites when the conditions are right, these are known as Alates. - Read more here - What are these winged bugs ? Read some info on Termite prevention tips.
Spiders
Spiders can be seen in houses all year round but are more active from spring to autumn.
